House Refurbishment Hampstead NW3
House Refurbishment Hampstead NW3

This Hampstead loft apartment refurbishment completed by Sigma Construction UK was a conversion of a loft space within a single family dwelling. Prior to the conversion, the attic space consisted of a series run-down of rooms with a very dark and steep access via a private secondary staircase, making it impractical and visually unappealing. more info >

Kitchen Extension Gospel Oak NW5

Located within the Gospel Oak, NW5 area, the project required us to concentrate on the development of a 4 bedroom semi-detached house that had very outdated interiors, cramped and contrived layout and a poorly built and uninsulated single storey extension in the garden.

The client desired a full house renovation and a new kitchen extension that is better linked with the existing interiors of the house.

The architectural design team recommended the demolition of the existing rear extension to open up the ground floor of the house to connect with the newly built full width kitchen extension. As part of the renovation the layout of the original house was redesigned to create a spacious open plan kitchen / dining area. The existing rotten timber patio doors leading from living room to garden were replaced with a steel frame that supports the external wall of existing house. This allowed the creation of an open plan kitchen diner, providing a large space for eating, drinking and entertaining.

To provide a good level of natural light throughout the living room, our construction team installed a series of large frameless roof lights that allow unobstructed views to the sky. Full height bi-fold doors and huge kitchen window further add to the light flooded space and provide easy access to the family garden.

The roof of this rear kitchen extension was designed to blend in to the client’s green garden. Natural sedum planting sit on the roof membrane to present a green carpet in place of a standard grey roof. The two roofs are clad in contrasting materials: the mono pitch roof to the kitchen area is clad in standing seam zinc whilst the flat roof over the dining area is covered with a sedum mat. Extension walls were rendered and painted white to tie the existing house to the new extension.

Internally the house was finished with a mix of modern and traditional materials whilst retaining distinction between the periods. Herringbone Oak stained parquet flooring was laid throughout the ground floor whilst Edwardian pattern tiles grace the new bathroom and utility room.
